Similar to how streaming services often renew shows before their initial seasons air, Apple appears to be adopting a proactive approach in its smartphone line-up. Recent rumors from Digital Chat Station on Weibo suggest that Apple has 'confirmed' the development of the iPhone Ultra 2, although the specifics of this confirmation remain ambiguous.

It is presumed that this means work on the successor to the iPhone Ultra has commenced, with a potential unveiling set for September, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The iPhone Ultra 2 is expected to retain the wide folding screen seen in its predecessor, possibly utilizing the same display as the original model.
This indicates Apple's strong confidence in the iPhone Ultra series. In contrast, the future of the iPhone Air line appears uncertain. Development of the iPhone Air 3 has not yet begun, and its future hinges on the sales performance of the iPhone Air 2. Should the Air 2 fail to meet expectations, Apple may reconsider the continuation of the iPhone Air lineup.
The iPhone Air 2 is anticipated to launch next spring alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
