Have you ever been forced to grant permissions that you would rather not give to an app? For instance, being asked for access to your call history or messages just to utilize a fitness app? Honor has addressed this concern with its new Virtual Permissions feature.

Set to roll out on MagicOS devices this month, Virtual Permissions allows users to grant empty permissions to applications they don’t fully trust. When enabled for specific apps through the settings menu, the system provides fabricated data, such as blank call logs, messages, and simulated camera access.
Because this feature operates at a low system level, it is expected to function seamlessly with nearly all applications. MagicOS will effectively spoof the app, allowing users to engage with it without disclosing any personal information. Virtual Permissions is included with the release of MagicOS version 10.0.0.160, which is currently being distributed to compatible Honor smartphones.
While the feature was initially announced on Weibo for Chinese users of MagicOS, there is every reason to believe that Honor will extend this innovative functionality to its global smartphone market.
