Google has recently launched Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3, featuring significant updates to the user interface. One of the standout changes is the revamped media app switcher, which transitions from a carousel format.
Enhanced Media App Switcher in Android 17
Unlike the media app switcher in Android 16, which required users to swipe left and right in the notification shade to switch between active media applications, Android 17 introduces a more intuitive and noticeable switching style.
The new design minimizes other media apps into small cards that expand upon tapping. This approach enhances convenience, reduces the likelihood of errors, and makes it more evident, especially for new users, that they can easily switch between media apps.
However, the minimized audio app cards occupy more screen space, which causes the active music app tab to shrink along with its player controls.
As this is a beta version, it serves as a functioning prototype, and adjustments to the media player switcher may occur before the official launch of Android 17.
