As WWDC 2026 approaches, confirmed to start on June 8, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has provided insights into the forthcoming iOS and iPadOS 27 updates. Among the most notable features is a standalone Siri app, designed as a ChatGPT and Claude-style chatbot that will serve as a comprehensive solution for a variety of tasks. This app will store past user conversations, maintain an ad-free experience, and include auto-deleting chat functionality.

Gurman highlights Apple's ongoing commitment to user privacy, which has delayed the AI assistant's launch as the company works to manage user data on its own servers. The new Siri is expected to be built on Apple Foundation Models, while Google Gemini will handle more complex AI tasks, ensuring that user data security is maintained during demanding operations.
Additionally, iOS 27 is anticipated to introduce enhanced system-wide AI writing tools that surpass the current capabilities of Apple Intelligence. Testing is currently underway for a “Write With Siri” toggle located at the top of the keyboard, which will provide suggestions and grammar checking functions.

Users will have the ability to approve or reject suggested changes and navigate through flagged text selections seamlessly. Moreover, an option called “Help Me Write” will be available when Siri is activated within an active text field.
In addition to these features, Apple is reportedly developing system-wide shortcuts that utilize natural language, as well as new AI-generated wallpaper and various editing tools within the Photos app. The Shortcuts feature is also receiving a significant update, allowing users to create actions based on their prompts.
