Ultimate Showdown: Discover the Fastest Electric Vehicle

Source: Date:

Electric vehicles (EVs) are known for their efficiency, silence, comfort, and advanced technology, yet the allure of instant torque and powerful performance remains undeniable. A team in China aimed to determine which mass-market EV is the fastest by pitting the top ten models against each other to find out which could reach 100 km/h the quickest. They conducted a braking test as well to ensure comprehensive evaluation.

This test featured vehicles that may not be familiar to the broader audience, including the following ten contenders: Neo ET7, XPeng P7 (referred to as P7i in China), Arcfox Alpha S, Tesla Model 3 Performance, Porsche Taycan Turbo, Audi RS e-tron GT, Tesla Model S Plaid, Zeekr 001 FR, Lotus Eletre R+, and Zeekr 007. Prior to testing, all cars were charged to 80% and their tires inflated according to manufacturer specifications.

The testing conditions included an air temperature of approximately 0°C, which was consistent across all vehicles and should not affect the comparison. Each vehicle was fitted with a measuring device to guarantee precise results.

Below is an overview of the participants, including their power outputs and the 0-100 km/h acceleration times as claimed by the manufacturers:

VehiclePowerClaimed 0-100 km/h time
Zeekr 001 FR930 kW2.02 s
Tesla Model S Plaid760 kW2.1 s
Zeekr 007468 kW2.84 s
Lotus Eletre R+675 kW2.95 s
Porsche Taycan Turbo500 kW3.2 s
Audi RS e-tron GT475 kW3.3 s
Tesla Model 3 Performance377 kW3.3 s
ArcFox Alfa S487 kW3.5 s
Nio ET7480 kW3.8 s
XPeng P7348 kW3.9 s

In the actual tests, the Zeekr 001 FR surpassed the Tesla Model S Plaid, revealing a greater performance discrepancy than indicated by their respective manufacturer claims. Nevertheless, neither vehicle achieved the advertised acceleration times.

The Zeekr 007 finished third, merely two-tenths of a second behind the Model S, and the Lotus Eletre R+ came in just after. The Audi RS e-tron GT was one of only two cars to meet its claimed acceleration time, outperforming the Porsche Taycan Turbo despite the cold weather, and created a four-tenths gap over the Model 3 Performance, which also promised identical acceleration.

The Nio ET7 emerged as the other vehicle to fulfill its claimed 0-100 km/h time, placing it eighth, outperforming the ArcFox Alfa S as the Nio widened the gap from the last-placed XPeng P7 from one-tenth to six-tenths in real-world testing.

During the braking tests, the Zeekr 001 FR outperformed the competition, with a remarkable stopping distance, besting the second-placed Audi RS e-tron GT by a substantial 2.5 meters, a significant margin that highlights its strong sports car capabilities. The braking performance of the Zeekr is unmatched within this elite group of vehicles.

The XPeng P7, Lotus Eletre R+, and Zeekr 007 followed closely behind the e-tron GT, forming a competent group in braking tests. Though impressive, their stopping distances, given the weight of the vehicles and the cold conditions, may not be suitable for track performance.

Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 Performance, Porsche Taycan Turbo, and ArcFox Alfa S each required over 39 meters to stop, a disappointing outcome considering their performance credentials.

In a surprising turning point for the braking test, the Tesla Model S Plaid equipped with a Track Package featuring ceramic brakes experienced a malfunction, locking all four brakes. This event forced the driver to veer off course, thankfully resulting in no accidents, although the tires were significantly damaged.
