The European Commission (EC) has recently advised EU member states to exclude equipment from Huawei and ZTE from their telecommunications infrastructure, marking a significant step towards a potential EU-wide ban on Chinese 5G networking technology.
This information was conveyed by an EC spokesperson. While the recommendation is not legally binding, it reflects a growing consensus around limiting the use of Chinese networking equipment within the EU.

Currently, the EU is working on enhancing cybersecurity measures that focus on supply chain security and product safety. These efforts include the Revised Cybersecurity Act (CSA 2.0), which aims to create a framework for identifying “high-risk suppliers” and mitigating foreign interference in critical sectors such as telecommunications.
Chinese officials have expressed concerns over this recommendation, labeling the EU's stance towards Chinese networking vendors as “discriminatory” and potentially harmful to EU-China trade and cooperation.
