The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, unveiled last December and already discontinued in multiple markets, has a thickness of 3.9-4.2mm when unfolded and 12mm when folded. Rumors suggest the second-generation model, likely named Galaxy Z TriFold 2, could feature a slimmer profile.

The Galaxy Z TriFold 2's anticipated slimmer design is likely attributed to a new hinge mechanism being developed by Samsung. This innovation is not limited to the TriFold 2; a modified version of this hinge is expected to be utilized in other single-folding Samsung smartphones as well.

It remains uncertain whether the upcoming single-folding Galaxy smartphones, set for release in the coming months, will incorporate this new hinge. There is also speculation about whether the next-generation TriFold will arrive in mid-2027, leading to doubts about Samsung integrating the new hinge mechanism in single-folding models before the launch of the TriFold 2.
