In April 2025, Casely, a power bank manufacturer, issued a recall for over 429,000 units of its Casely Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe wireless phone charger (model number E33A) due to serious safety concerns. Reports indicated that the lithium-ion cells within the product could overheat, expand, and even ignite, leading to hazardous situations.
Casely Issues Second Recall of Power Pods 5000mAh
Fortunately, earlier incidents resulted in only minor burn injuries, but the latest recalls highlight a tragic event in which a 75-year-old woman from New Jersey suffered severe burns and passed away from complications after her power bank exploded while charging her phone on her lap.

It is crucial for consumers to verify whether they possess the Casely Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe wireless phone charger, identifiable by model number E33A on its back, and the "Casely" engraving on the front.
Disposal Instructions for Recalled Power Banks
Purchases of these power banks occurred between March 2022 and September 2024, with prices between $30 and $70 via getcasely.com, Amazon.com, and various other online retailers. It is essential not to throw these devices away carelessly.
Instead, dispose of the power bank safely through your local municipality's household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center. Before heading there, check if they accept lithium-ion batteries, and if not, ask for their guidance.
Following this recall announcement, do not use the Casely Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe wireless phone charger. Consumers should contact Casely to request a free replacement.

Recalls are not uncommon within the power bank industry. Recently, other manufacturers like INIU and Anker have recalled their products due to similar fire hazards. This trend emphasizes the importance of power bank safety, especially given their widespread use among smartphone users who rely on them to maintain device operationality when out and about.
As battery technology evolves, with some smartphones now featuring larger batteries (6,000mAh and higher), the power bank market may experience fluctuations in demand, but the need for safe and reliable options will always remain.
