According to a recent Bloomberg News report, 25% of all new iPhones are now manufactured in India. Last year, approximately 55 million iPhones were produced in the country, a significant increase from 36 million units in 2024. India’s emergence as a major iPhone manufacturing center began in 2017 with the iPhone SE, followed by the iPhone 6s in 2018.

Initially, Apple’s primary motivation was to avoid India’s high import tariffs on products manufactured in China. However, the escalating US-China trade tensions soon compelled Apple to diversify iPhone production beyond China more broadly.
Since then, iPhone manufacturing in India has steadily expanded. Major assemblers such as Foxconn, Tata Electronics, and Pegatron now produce all key iPhone models shortly after their launch. The iPhone 15 marked a significant milestone as the first model assembled in India and available locally from day one.

India’s growing incentives for local manufacturing are positioning the country as a critical hub for Apple’s iPhone production. Reports indicate that all new iPhone 17 series devices sold in the US will be assembled in India. Additionally, rumors from late 2025 suggest Apple may begin assembling iPhone chips in the country.
