GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu has released a new research note outlining five significant upgrades expected for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year.

First, the Dynamic Island will be reduced in size as the flood illuminator for Face ID is relocated beneath the display. Additionally, the 48MP main camera will feature a variable aperture.

Pu also provides details on three chips that will be included in the Pro series. The A20 Pro will power the devices, manufactured using TSMC's first-generation 2nm process with a new packaging design. The N2 chip, an upgrade to the N1 chip currently handling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support in the iPhone 17 range and the iPhone Air, is anticipated to enhance wireless performance and/or power efficiency.

Finally, the C2 modem is expected to debut in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. This is noteworthy because Apple's C1 modem has only been featured in the iPhone 16e, alongside the C1X in the iPhone Air. With the introduction of the C2, Apple's in-house modems will finally be integrated into the mainstream Pro lineup.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are anticipated to be unveiled in September, alongside the launch of the iPhone Fold, while the iPhone 18 may be released in conjunction with the iPhone 18e next spring.
