The Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has announced a new high-performance variant of its popular SUV, the Xiaomi YU7 GT. This model is set to be one of the most powerful vehicles on the road. While the standard YU7 is already a capable family car, the GT version takes performance to unprecedented heights.

According to recent filings from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the YU7 GT represents a significant increase in power. The most robust version of the standard SUV, the YU7 Max, produces 508 kW (681 horsepower), which is already impressive for a daily driver. However, the GT variant boasts an astounding output of 738 kW, approximately 990 horsepower, positioning it alongside some of the world's most prestigious supercars.

The YU7 GT is equipped with dual electric motors; the front motor generates 288 kW, while the rear motor contributes a robust 450 kW. This configuration ensures all-wheel drive and a top speed of 300 km/h. For enthusiasts who appreciate rapid acceleration, the YU7 GT is expected to achieve 0 to 100 km/h in roughly 2 seconds, which will undoubtedly provide an exhilarating driving experience.

In addition to its impressive performance, the new model is also physically larger. The GT measures 5,015 mm in length, 2,007 mm in width, and 1,597 mm in height, making it 16 mm longer and 11 mm wider than the standard YU7. These changes are primarily due to revised bumpers, while the wheelbase remains unchanged at 3,000 mm. The added dimensions give the vehicle a more imposing presence, further enhanced by an all-black exterior that signals its performance intentions.

Weight is a crucial aspect for performance vehicles, and the YU7 GT carries a curb weight of 2,460 kg. To manage this heft while delivering powerful performance, Xiaomi has fitted the GT with wide tires—front wheels utilize 265/40R21 tires, and the rear wheels are wider at 295/35R21. The advanced ternary lithium battery powering the vehicle is supplied by CATL.

While the technical specifications are impressive, potential buyers are likely eager to know the price. Market analysts estimate that the YU7 GT will retail between RMB 450,000 and RMB 500,000 in China, equivalent to approximately €52,900 to €58,900. Although this is significantly higher than the base price of the YU7, which starts at around €29,900, many enthusiasts will likely perceive it as a competitive option against European luxury brands, particularly given its nearly 1,000-horsepower output.

The YU7 GT comes equipped with distinctive features such as eye-catching red brake calipers and a prominent rear diffuser to enhance aerodynamics. Additionally, it offers various customization options, allowing owners to select different wheel designs and body decals. Although the YU7 GT is initially aimed at the Chinese market, the company has plans for global expansion in the future. For those desiring an exceptional blend of utility and speed, this electric powerhouse may be worth the wait.

The emergence of high-performance electric vehicles is transforming the perception of family SUVs. Just a few years ago, a car boasting 990 horsepower would have been considered a rare exotic. Today, it is a versatile five-seat SUV capable of carrying groceries and transporting children to school, but just remember to secure those groceries before testing out the impressive acceleration.
