Despite the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 in mid-2025, consumers continue to purchase the original Nintendo Switch, propelling it to become the company's best-selling console ever.
As of now, the Nintendo Switch has sold 155.37 million units, surpassing the previous record-holder, the Nintendo DS, which sold 154.02 million units. In third place is the iconic Nintendo Game Boy, although it is important to note that this figure includes multiple variants, such as the Game Boy Color.
The Switch 2 launched with 6 million units sold within its first month and has since reached a total of 17.37 million units. It still has a considerable distance to cover to catch up with its predecessor.

Nintendo has also shared statistics regarding game sales, where the original Switch has excelled, selling an impressive 1,500.16 million games. To put this into perspective, the Nintendo DS recorded 948.76 million game sales, and surprisingly, the Nintendo Wii follows with 921.85 million sales, despite having sold 101.63 million units, which is fewer than the Game Boy. The Game Boy itself recorded 501.11 million games sold, which remains a stellar achievement.
While the Nintendo Switch is the top-selling console in Nintendo's history, the all-time leader remains the Sony PlayStation 2, which sold 160 million units during its extensive lifespan from 2000 to 2013. The PS2 also leads in game sales, accumulating 1.54 billion sales.
