Meet Apple's Second-Generation AirTag: Enhanced Precision Finding and Loudspeaker

Source: Date:

Apple has unveiled its first new device of 2026: the second-generation AirTag. This update arrives almost five years after the original AirTag launch, bringing several enhancements while maintaining the same fundamental design as its predecessor.

AirTag 2nd Gen

The new AirTag features Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, similar to that found in the iPhone 17 series, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Series 11 smartwatches. This chip allows for enhanced Precision Finding, enabling users to locate lost items from 50% greater distances.

Improved Precision Finding

Users of the Apple Watch Series 9 or later, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, can take advantage of Precision Finding directly on their devices. The second-generation AirTag also includes an upgraded Bluetooth chip, increasing the range for item location. Another significant upgrade is the louder speaker, now 50% louder than its predecessor. The new AirTag continues to use a single user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery.

The pricing remains unchanged, with a single AirTag available for $29/€35/£29 and a four-pack for $99/€119/£99. The second-generation AirTag is available for order today, and customers can enjoy free personalized engraving options through the Apple Store.
