In August, Google introduced an innovative feature that detects when users are in a conference room with others, automatically activating companion mode to join Meet calls. Initially exclusive to desktops and laptops, this feature is now available on Android and iOS devices, with a gradual rollout planned over the next two weeks.
Automatic Room Check-In for Google Meet on Android
This feature streamlines the process of joining group meetings by utilizing your device’s microphone to detect ultrasonic signals in the room. This technology allows for automatic check-in to group calls while minimizing echo interference caused by other participants.
Automatic room check-in is now integrated into Google Meet and Gmail on both Android and iOS. To access this feature, users must have Meet version 336.0 or higher on Android/iOS, or Gmail version 2025.12.01 for Android and 6.0.251201 for iOS. It is available for all Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers.
